Scotland Week 2011
6 April 2011
Formerly known as Tartan week now officially known as Scotland week - is in its ninth year of celebrating Celtic culture in New York. In 2011, Scotland week runs from April 3rd to 10th with the annual Tartan Day parade on the 6th of April with numerous events scheduled across the U.S. and Canada. On Sunday, April 10, thousands will take part in the annual Scotland Run - a 10 K race around Central Park, which will become a sea of Scottishness, as participants run to the rhythm of drums and bagpipes.
The annual festival will be complete with drummers, pipers, members of Scottish organizations and clans along with an array of Highland Terriers. There are also several bands scheduled to perform Scottish music and a showcase of Kilt fashion (Dressed to Kilt) hosted by Sir Sean Connery’s Friends of Scotland charity. This year, The Scottish Government’s Enterprise and Tourism Minister Jim Mather and the Parliament’s Deputy Presiding Officer Alasdair Morgan will be leading the delegation with Glasgow’s Lord Provost Bob Winter serving as Grand Marshal for the New York City Parade. Our own Principal Officer, Dana Linnet will be celebrating this year’s Tartan Day on this side of the Atlantic with Scots and Americans at a Tartan Day Gala Dinner, hosted by Angus Council, in Carnoustie.
Wherever you are we hope you will raise a glass for Scotland week 2011!
