Anniversary of the Lockerbie bombing

On the 22nd Anniversary of the Lockerbie bombing where 270 people lost their lives, Principal Officer Dana Linnet and the staff at the US Consulate Edinburgh would like to offer their ongoing sympathy with the families of the disaster, who live everyday with the loss of their loved ones and are never far from our thoughts.  At the same time we reiterate our shared desire for justice to prevail and reaffirm the U.S. government’s deep regret at the decision by the Scottish government last August to release Megrahi and permit his return to Libya.  We have expressed repeatedly to Scottish authorities our firm belief that Megrahi should serve out his sentence in a Scottish prison.  We will continue to reiterate this position to the Scottish and Libyan authorities.
